John Sisk

P&R Morson has delivered all the mechanical and electrical services installation for John Sisk on the Grand Union scheme in London’s Ladbroke Grove, a mixed use development of commercial offices and both private and social housing.

The scheme has involved a broad services installation within tight budgetary and time constraints.

Explains Colin Starken from John Sisk:

“P&R Morson has provided us with excellent levels of resourcing for the scheme, including an experienced site team and very hands on management that can always be contacted when we need them, even at weekends.
“They’ve also upped the ante when we’ve needed them to, ensuring that the programme remains on track with a flexible approach and extended working times or out of hours working.”

Colin also highlights P&R Morson’s meticulous approach to health and safety and a major consideration.

He continues:

“Health and safety is definitely one of P&R Morson’s strengths.  Leadership on site is excellent and their paperwork and compliance is always spot on so that we can be completely confident they’re maintaining the highest safety standards.
“I’d definitely use them again on future jobs.”

Volker Fitzpatrick

P&R Morson first worked with Volker Fitzpatrick on a project at Windsor House, an office development in Slough, several years ago. The number of projects that the two companies have worked on together since then speaks volumes about the relationship between the two.

Comments Ted Pillbeam from Volker Fitzpatrick:

“P&R Morson are competitive in terms of cost but never cheap. When we get a price from them we know they’ve not left wriggle room for negotiation and we can be confident that there’ll be no hidden extra costs further down the line – the price they give us is what it will take to deliver a quality scheme.
“They’re also non-confrontational in terms of attitude, which makes them easier to work with and ensures any issues are resolved quickly.”

Amongst P&R Morson’s most recent projects for Volker Fitzpatrick is University Square Stratford, a new campus developed in partnership between Birkbeck University of London and the University of East London. P&R Morson were responsible for a £4 million package of mechanical and electrical services on the £33 million scheme.

Ted adds:

“Since we first started working with P&R Morson they have done about one job a year for us and we hired them for this prestigious scheme because we knew they could deliver at a competitive price.”

A recent project to upgrade the Grade II* listed Engineering Building for the University of Leicester delivered by main contractor, Lendlease, involved extremely complex considerations for installing the building services and P&R Morson was tasked with the challenge of upgrading the systems without impacting on the fabric of the building or its many listed fixtures.

Explains Mark Brennan from Lendlease:

“The project included an upgrade from single to double glazing and the building services installation not only had to take into account how this would affect the internal environment in terms of heating, cooling and ventilation, but also needed to ensure the right solutions were installed in full compliance with the heritage requirements of a Grade II* building.
“It has been a very technically challenging mechanical and electrical project with distribution routes, fixings and controls all needing adaptation to the listed environment.”

P&R Morson invested time in fully understanding both the brief and the implications in terms of installation practices, such as how control systems were to be mounted and where to site installation routes for cables. Ensuring the very highest standards of tidiness and quality was vital.

Mark adds:

“We already knew that P&R Morson had a good reputation for education sector projects and they adapted really well to the requirements of this heritage scheme, blending lots of new works into the existing building fabric.
“We would be quite happy to work with them again.”

ISG is a leading UK-based construction company with a global reach, including offices across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, The Far East and South Africa.

P&R Morson has worked with the company for the past eight years and the mechanical and electrical installation at two recent leisure centre projects exemplifies the team’s approach and the added value that P&R Morson brings to a scheme.

ISG delivered upgrades to Bloxwich and Oak Park leisure centres as part of a £24 million investment by Walsall Council, involving schemes with 25 metre pools, six court sports halls and 100 station fitness suites. The company engaged P&R Morson to install all mechanical and electrical services in a £3.6 million programme across both buildings involving all heating, ventilation, lighting and power.

“While P&R Morson are competitive on price, it’s the company’s experienced and highly trained in-house team that has underpinned our long-standing relationship.
“The company’s management team takes a collaborative approach and is non-confrontational when it comes to communicating on a job which means that we can work in partnership, making life on site easier and more productive for everyone and working together to address the challenges that occur on all schemes.”

Amongst the challenges on the Walsall leisure projects were design obstacles, an exacting programme and a tight budget.

“P&R Morson was proactive in suggesting value engineering opportunities while remaining compliant with the specification and they were flexible about working hours, helping the scheme to remain on track.
“Much of the work on these two schemes had to be carried out in a live environment to maintain services for local residents and P&R Morson performed very well against that challenging backdrop.”
